Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the Everything Series language-learning Android apps ("the App", "we", "our") handle user information. It applies to Everything Deutsch, Everything English, Everything Español and Everything Français, and to any future Everything Series releases for additional CEFR levels or target languages.

1. Summary

We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. All data created by your use of the App stays on your device. The App requires no account, no sign-in, and no internet connection to function (other than optional online TTS voices managed by Android itself).

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores the following data only on your device, using Android's standard SharedPreferences and internal storage:

• Exercise progress — which exercises you've completed and your accuracy per section. Cleared when the App is uninstalled, or via Settings → Delete progress.
• Favorites — words, phrases, grammar tables, and conversations you star. Cleared with the same options as progress.
• Streak count — days in a row you've practiced.
• Total study time — aggregated daily/weekly usage time (no individual sessions).
• App settings — your UI language, dark-mode preference, font size, TTS voice and speed. Cleared when the App is uninstalled, or via Settings → Reset settings.
• Last crash report — if the App unexpectedly closes, a technical description of the error (no personal data) is saved locally to help us fix it. Cleared when the App is uninstalled.

This data is never transmitted off your device. The only exception is entirely in your hands: if you choose Settings → Send feedback, the pre-filled email may include the last crash report — you see the full content in your email app and decide whether to send it.

3. Permissions Requested

• Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — required for the "Speaking" exercise type that uses Android's speech recognizer to evaluate your pronunciation. Asked only when you first tap a Speaking exercise.
• Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — required (Android 13+) to send the optional daily study reminder. Asked only when you enable "Daily reminder" in Settings.

You can deny or revoke these permissions at any time via your device's app settings. The App degrades gracefully without them: Speaking exercises will not run if microphone access is denied, and the daily reminder will not fire if notifications are denied.

4. Audio Recording and Speech Recognition

When you use a Speaking exercise:

• The App calls Android's SpeechRecognizer, which is part of Android's system services.
• Android may send the audio to its own speech-recognition service (Google's, in most cases) to convert it to text.
• The App only receives the transcribed text from Android, not the audio itself. We never store, transmit, or process the raw audio.
• The transcribed text is compared on-device to the expected answer; only the comparison result (correct/incorrect) is saved as exercise progress.

What Google's speech-recognition service does with the audio is governed by Google's privacy policy — not by us. If you do not want to use Google's service, you can install an offline speech-recognition engine on your device, or simply not use Speaking exercises.

5. Text-to-Speech (TTS)

The App uses Android's TextToSpeech API to pronounce words and example sentences in the target language. This may use a local or online TTS engine depending on your device configuration. Again, the App does not control what your TTS engine does — refer to your TTS engine's privacy policy.

6. Third-Party Services

The App does not use:

• Analytics (Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, etc.)
• Third-party crash reporting (Crashlytics, Sentry, etc.)
• Ads (AdMob, etc.)
• Social-media SDKs
• Login services

If we ever introduce any of the above in a future version, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly, and you will see the change at the next app update.

7. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any data from anyone — adults or children. Because nothing is collected, there is no specific data about children that we could retain.

8. Deleting Your Data

Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control:

• Delete progress only: Settings → Delete progress. This wipes exercise history, favorites, streaks, and study time. Settings preferences are kept.
• Reset settings only: Settings → Reset settings. This restores defaults for UI language, dark mode, font size, TTS voice, etc. Progress is kept.
• Delete everything: uninstall the App from your device. Android will remove all locally-stored data.

The "Delete progress" and "Reset settings" options are accessible without requiring sign-in, in compliance with Google Play policy on account-data deletion.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we materially change how the App handles data (e.g., adding analytics), we will update this document, increment the "Last updated" date at the top, and surface a notification in the App informing you of the change before any new data collection begins. For minor clarifications that do not affect data handling, we may update this page without notifying you in-app.
